We’ve been waiting for Danlu, the new Asian gastropub opening at 3601 Market Street, for over two years now. Patrick Feury and his partners Michael Wei, Henry Chu and Kenny Hung — the same crew behind Berwyn’s French-Asian restaurant, Nectar (“danlu” is Chinese for “nectar”) — went on a little research trip to Taiwan back in 2015, visited all the night markets and came back all fired up about the big, bold flavors they experienced abroad.
Now, after a two-year, two-story buildout, Danlu is open in University City, serving up a menu of up-jumped Taiwanese and Chinese street eats (with a little bit of that Feury fusion flair), 20 tapped craft beers, seasonal cocktails and wine. Michael Cooperman, formerly of Red Cat in New York City, is running the kitchen as chef de cuisine. Food menu’s here, and the drink menu’s here.
It’s open for lunch today. Regular hours are Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., brunch starts at noon on weekends, and the kitchen closes at 9 p.m. on Sundays. It’s walk-in only – no reservations.
